报告人简介:

Dr. Chen’s research is focused on understanding the molecular organization of key protein machinery at excitatory glutamatergic synapses and how organization of these key molecular complexes might underlie the basic functional properties of synapses. Using high resolution EM tomography, Immuno-EM and Immuno-EM tomography and recently developed scanning transmission EM tomography which allows entire dendritic spines to be reconstructed within 1-2 um thick sections, he and the collaborators made major advances in identifying and characterizing molecular level structures and their conformations in intact postsynaptic density (PSD) at hippocampal spine synapses. Current efforts are underway combining molecular biology, various novel labeling and imaging techniques to decipher PSD-95 MAGUK proteins, NMDAR and AMPARs at the PSD and identify other scaffolding molecules such as GKAP, Shank in relation to PSD-95 MAGUK proteins that comprise the core orthogonal scaffold at the PSD.
