报告简介:

 The receptive field is one of the most common ways to characterize the function of a sensory neuron. To encoding stimulus, sensory cells collect information across their receptive fields from multiple presynaptic neurons. In retina, individual RGCs receive many excitatory inputs from upstream bipolar cells, which are thought to constitute nonlinear subunits within the receptive field. To date, a systematic method for detecting these subunits without detailed measurements of the anatomical and physiological properties of the bipolar-ganglion cell circuitry is still lacking. In this talk, I will present such a novel method, termed semi-non-negative matrix factorization (semi-NMF), to achieve this goal. This method may be a useful tool to study the general principle of neural circuits.
